Abiomed Global Web Replatform
Problem:
Abiomed had too many fragmented web properties with inconsistent look and feel. It was difficult to manage content across US, Germany and Japan markets which housed over 800 pages. Not only did they need a refresh and re-platform, their current websites were not optimized for mobile.
Goal:
Centralize their CMS platform for ease of editing and updating content, Redefine ecosystems and sitemap based on web analytics and user needs, create a design with predefined templates and provide a measurement framework with google analytics tagging recommendations.

Sprint Kickoff
At the beginning of a design sprint, we hosted collaborative working sessions where we talked through the content outline to align on each page objective. We would have key stakeholders, subject matter experts, design, data strategists and content in these working sessions.
Looking at google analytics during these working sessions helped us make informed recommendations about removing content or pages that were not beneficial.

Design System and Templates
As part of the design system we also created flexible modules and templates which we provided consistent naming convention from design source files to the CMS implementation to create a consistent experience for their internal team.

”M-00:Hero” for Modules



Template and Module Documentation
In addition to creating the design system, we provided a documentation module library to help support the template creation for Abiomed’s internal team to build pages on the new CMS platform. This documentation help provide character limitations, guidance on image size and module usage to build the best page with their content.

Conclusion
Abiomed successfully launched their websites globally early February 2021. The success of the partnership between their key stakeholders, our design and development teams, we created and defined templates that can be utilized across their platforms. In summary, the success of the development of this replatform project had led to more initiatives such as redesigning Abiomed’s mobile apps.
